FC Milwaukee USSDA Teams Complete Road Trip; Look Forward to Home Stand
Mar 25 2009 - CL

FC Milwaukee’s US Soccer Development Academy (“USSDA”) teams completed an 8-game road trip over 4 weeks on Saturday, March 21 in Rochester, NY with 2 ties against Empire United. It marked the end of a long stretch of away games for the USSDA teams – but the vast majority of the traveling they will have to do for the remainder of the season.
The stretch of games for FC Milwaukee began in Denver against 3 very good Colorado teams (Colorado Rush, Real Colorado, and Colorado Rapids), moved to St. Louis for very competitive games against St. Louis Scott Gallagher – Missouri and St. Louis Scott Gallagher - Metro, moved to Detroit for games against conference contenders Vardar and Derby County Wolves, and concluded against a new opponent -- Empire United. “It was a very difficult series of games,” said FC Milwaukee USSDA Director Christian Lavers, “but we have come through it fairly well and can look forward to a lot of home games in Milwaukee for the rest of the season.”
“The great part about being a member of the Development Academy is that every opponent is a great club – and every game is so competitive,” said FC Milwaukee U-18 USSDA Head Coach Billy Solberg. “Because our teams have to play at such a high level every game, the boys really develop mental and physical toughness, learn what it takes to be consistently competitive at the highest levels of youth soccer, and at the end will be much better prepared to be great players in college.”
Over the 8 road games, the U16 USSDA team won 1, tied 4, and lost 3, while the U18 USSDA team won 1, tied 2, and lost 5.
Over the coming 8 weeks, each of FC Milwaukee’s USSDA teams will get to play 11 games at home in Milwaukee against some of the best teams from all over the country, including both divisional opponents (Rush, Real, Rapids, St. Louis Scott Gallagher – Metro, St. Louis Scott Gallagher – Missouri), and some of the best clubs from the Texas division of the Central Conference – perennial championship contenders Dallas Texans, Solar, Andromeda, and FC Dallas.
“We are about one-third of the way through the USSDA season, and both teams are still very competitively placed to win play-off spots at the end of the year,” said Lavers. “I am sure the teams are looking forward to playing at home in front of friends and family – and are ready to show that Milwaukee is a very difficult place to come and play.” |
