U.S. SOCCER FOUNDATION AWARDS FC MILWAUKEE $200,000 GRANT
Mar 20 2009 - HG

The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the Major Charitable Arm of Soccer in the United States, announced Monday that it has awarded FC Milwaukee with a $200,000 FieldTurf Field Grant as part of its 15th annual grants program.
Through its history, the Foundation has made nearly $51 million available to groups in all 50 states to support the growth of soccer in the U.S. Since the first grants were made in the spring of 1995, the Foundation has issued almost 600 awards to groups large and small in every corner of the nation.
This year, the Foundation awarded five field grants for the construction of full-size Field Turf soccer fields that that are durable, and can be used in all weather conditions.
“The Foundation supports projects that focus on keeping kids active, healthy and engaged in activities that provide an alternative to negative influences,” said Ed Foster-Simeon, President of the U.S. Soccer Foundation. “We believe that soccer fosters a child's development as both an athlete on the field of play and as a young adult in the game of life and are committed to making sure each child has opportunities to succeed.”
FC Milwaukee is in the midst of a $5 million capital campaign for the funding of their new state-of-the-art soccer facility, which will feature 2 lit turf fields and 7 natural grass fields. “The US Soccer Foundation grant is an important part of our fundraising effort to install Turf on two fields for our Field of Dreams soccer complex. The $200,000 grant is significant in that only five such grants were awarded this year, and we were the only grant given to a youth soccer club in the country. While FC Milwaukee is still looking for more donor, sponsor, and foundation support, the US soccer grant puts us closer to our target fundraising goal for Phase I.” said Dr. Larry Pan, FC Milwaukee Club President.
